Neither of us slept well last night. People nearby arrived in camp late and were noisy. The train came and blew its horn at the crossing between 10:00 and 6:00 at least four times and the every bird in the campground had to have been having a welcome the daylight party in the tree above us at 5:00 AM. So we were able to take our time getting ready and were still on the road by 8:30.

An uneventful 90 minute drive and we were at George Washington Carver's boyhood home. Junior ranger badge in hand we were on the road ahead of schedule by about 10:45. We had a snack of peanut butter and apples to honor George en route. We made it out of the letter A songs on the iPod and are now about 350 songs in. 

Another short drive and a border crossing into Kansas put us at Fort Scott. A pioneer Fort and a town that played an important roll in the civil war. We toured the entire Fort and then made a quick lunch to eat on the road back east to Independence, Missouri and the home of Harry S Truman. After finishing up there we drove to our campground d for the night. 

It was a hot day but like every other time we've come west there is a constant breeze and luckily tonight our tent site was shady so we repacked some bags to sort out some clothes we don't think we will need and enjoyed being outside. We have to ship some stuff home to allow room for Scott and Luke in a few weeks.  Our dinner consisted of sweet potato pancakes and veggies with smores for dessert. We spent the evening route planning and playing a national parks trivial pursuit game.
