Last day of spring break on the road

Yesterday, we had two parks to hit before we made it home. Our first stop after about an hour and a half drive which included a few wrong turns, we hit the visitor center fro Big South Fork River and National Recreational Area. They were having their Spring Planting festival which involves the local community showing how the people of this area lived many years ago. There were wooden toy makers, basket makers, soap makers, musicians among other artisans. The kids enjoyed talking to the ranger about the local animal populations and they got to pet a corn snake. We also looked at how this fork of the Cumberland river carved the valley. We made lunch while the kids played and then we headed to Obed Wild River.
The visitor center is in Oneida, TN and from the looks of it doesn't get a lot of visitors. The kids did the junior ranger books and then we went on a very short hike to the Lilly Bluffs overlook to get a look at the river.
After that we were headed home. The kids could not wait. The drive felt like it took forever but we finally made it home around 9:30.
It was great to sleep in our own beds and take showers in our own bathrooms. Our little house feels massive compared to the FunV and we are slowly settling back into reality. The camper is clean for the next trip and the last loads of laundry are finishing as I type.
The kids were so happy to wake in their own house and play with their friends. Cherokee is especially happy to have a backyard with freedom to roam and cool floors to sleep all day on. I counted the weeks and we only have seven until we head west for two weeks. In between we have lots of other adventures to keep us entertained.
I hope you have enjoyed my posts. Until then...
