Saturday
We didn’t get as early a start as we had hoped this morning. My original plan had us leaving at 6 am which I admit was quite unrealistic. However part of the delay was the fact that we needed to stop at Walmart for some cheap car seats. We got on the road about 8 am.
Our drive was pretty uneventful with stops for gas and to go to the bathroom. We are avoiding using the bathroom in the camper for as long as possible simply to avoid the dumping. The kids (Liam, Luke and Lorelei) have done really well considering that we have been in the camper 14 hours (writing this at 10:15pm). They have colored, watched movies, beaded necklaces and looked out the window.
Because of our late start we arrived 20 minutes to closing at Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, PA and did a quick tour of the trains and roundhouse. We picked up another National Park stamp and all had a good chance to stretch our legs. We stopped for dinner at Wendy’s because we really just needed to get out of the camper and give Scott, who has driven the whole time, a chance to eat and not drive.
I am writing this from the Hwy 401 in Ontario. The border crossing took much longer than I anticipated because they made us pull over for a vehicle search and wanted to talk to Scott and me about what we were here for. I am chalking that experience up to the trials of travelling with “Hurricane Scott”. We are pretty sure that given his extensive travel to China and Mexico, they flagged him as a possible smuggler or something. But we made it through and are less than an hour from our destination. Krista and the kids are all asleep and this quiet time is giving me a chance to think about how we have planned our Montana trip this summer. Definitely not with 14 – 15 hour days!! More from Canada tomorrow!
Sunday
We arrived last night around 11:15 and visited for a little while. Today was a great Easter Sunday. We woke up and had fantastic yeast buns made by Pat for breakfast. Then we all showered and dressed for church. After the service, we had lunch and then Ron, Scott, the kids and I headed over to the National Air Force Museum of Canada. We saw some great airplanes and some of the exhibits. Next we headed into Belleville for a tour of the town. When we got back to the house the kids wanted to fly their kites and the back yard was the world’s most perfect spot. Luke was able to fly it completely by himself which was a first for him. Then they rode on Ron’s tractor and hunted Easter eggs. We had a great dinner – nothing like home cooking and enjoyed a movie together. It has been a great day!
Monday
Today we went to Prince Edward County “The County” and visited with Krista’s grandparents. We had a great lunch of ham, beans, macaroni, more of Pat’s yummy rolls and apple pie made by Marie. Afterwards we headed into Belleville for a little shopping at the Bulk Barn. This is a place where there are tubs of candy, chocolate, soup mixes, noodles, flour, cake mixes, jimmies and tons of other stuff that you measure and buy by the pound. The kids bought some candy and I bought chocolate for ganache. Next we headed to the dollar store to look for beads and ended up with a disco ball for the camper. Now it really is a “FunV”. We had a great dinner of homemade lasagna, salad and garlic bread. We have definitely eaten well on this visit!!!
Ron and Pat live in the country and I was able to capture the stars last night. I have never seen this many stars. There is too much light pollution back home!
