Our nation's capitol

Our nation's capitol

Today was sunny and would have been nice except for the winds. 20 - 30 mph gusts cut right to the bone. We ate breakfast in Starbucks downstair in our hotel and the toasted bagel and hot chocolate kept me warm all the way to the capitol. We waited in line for the capitol visitors center but knew we would not be going on a tour. I did not arrange with our congressman because we wanted to focus mainly on museums and national mounments/parks and the hour long tour would take too much time. Security at the capitol is no joke - no food, no water bottles, no empty containers. I saw people throw away really expensive hiking water botttles and all kinds of food.

We headed over to the Air and Space museum next. The kids were excited to see this one. They were especially excited to see Able the monkey as inspired by Night at the Museum II. We of course encouraged their excitement by pointing out all of the other exhibits that were in the movie. After all, how many kindergartners recognize Amelia Earhart. We ate lunch in McDonalds inside the museum and headed to Ford's Theatre.

It was about 1:30 when we arrived (walking) and our admission tickets were not until 2:00 so we headed across the street to the Peterson House where Lincold actually died. Then we browsed the gift shop while we waited. We got the kids cameras for Christmas and while we have found their need to take a picture of EVERYTHING annoying, we have not really tried to stop them. Luke is very excited to show
