We got up early this morning to get on the road at 7:15. We made great time through NC and hit Fredericksburg battlefield at 11:45. Lorelei did the junior ranger program as always and we watched the movie and took the walking tour of the battlefield. We were there almost two hours and we picked up lunch to eat in the car for the rest of the drive. We were all checked into our hotel and ready to explore by 3:15.

We went to the Washington Monument to see if we could get tickets but they were all sold out for the day so we took some pictures and went ahead and got our park stamps and headed over to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History which had late holiday hours today. We looked at everything and were especially interested in the things that were used as inspiration in the Night at the Museum movies, hence our Easter Island head pictured here. I was very excited to get an Einstein bobble head in the gift shop. We love souvenirs!!! We at dinner at the museum cafe and head back to our hotel around 7pm. The city was very quiet and hardly anyone was out. I love seeing it all lit up. I forgot my tripod so there won't be very many night shots unfortunately.

We walked over 3 miles today and our feet and bodies are tired. More excitement to come tomorrow as we hit the capitol, another museum, Ford's theatre and the metro.
